Slayer and The Checkered Flag Foundation – Mayhem Fest Tampa, Florida

This past week I was contacted by Ben Gardner from OrlandoBands.com to shoot a meet and greet signing for a group of Marines with the Checkered Flag Foundation and the band Slayer at the Mayhem Fest in Tampa, Florida. I happily agreed to the shoot and Friday night met up with Al Brown, the coordinator, over at the Ask Gary Ampitheatre in Tampa, Fl . Being a drummer for the past 20 years means I grew up in the 80s metal band era and Dave Lombardo is one of my idols in the music world. I was very excited about this shoot and to have the chance to meet the guys in the band.

This shoot was set up to raise money for the Checkered Flag Foundation by auctioning off a donated guitar from ESP Guitars that was signed by the band. This is a great cause and a meaningful one that I am happy to help contribute to. There are so many people sacrificing their lives for the freedom we take for granted so anyway that I can give back, I try to where ever I can.

The shoot started by gaining access backstage and hanging out for a bit until the guys in the band were all together. Al explained what the purpose of the shoot was and the band members happily obliged by autographing a very nice ESP guitar and then posing for a couple group shots with the marines. After talking with the band for a bit, they retired to their dressing room and we went out to watch the show. Slayer put on a kick ass show and I got some great pics from the photo pit.

Hey, Cory. Great shots. And, love the Vistalite set (old school). Nice job.
